Back to Africa Movement-Marcus Garvey was an African-American man who wanted to create a “Negro Nationalism” by capturing the imagination of many other African-Americans but yet it only resulted in lightening up the black culture and it’s traditions from the past. Garvey had told his followers that they would never find justice nor freedom in america and that all African-Americans from all over the united states should go to Africa where they would live. |
Duke Ellington
In 1923 Ellington formed a small band then moved to New York where they began to play in speakeasies and clubs. Ellington began to make his own blend of improvisation and orchestration using different combinations of instruments. Duke Ellington was known for his hits “Mood Indigo” and “Sophisticated Lady”.
